"Hey, I’m Rae.
I started Artifact in 2018 in San Francisco, after years in real estate staging and furniture retail and realizing most people were stuck between soulless budget furniture or ultra-expensive design services. I wanted something in the middle: beautiful, high-quality furniture with a custom, human design experience that’s easy, fast, and actually fun.
Artifact was born in California but built for the way people move today. We use smart tech behind the scenes to keep things seamless, but we never lose the human touch. No algorithms or cookie-cutter spaces, just real conversations, curated collections, and thoughtful design made for you.
Since we launched, we’ve helped furnish 500+ homes across the U.S., from pro athletes in penthouses to grads decorating their first apartments, to families relocating from around the world. Every move is different, and that’s what keeps it exciting.
I’ve moved a lot, first solo, now with my three-year-old son, Goldie, and my husband, Joseph (a.k.a. Jomo), a professional big wave surfer and audiologist. We split our time between California and South Africa, always chasing waves, sunshine, and a beautiful life together. We love our work, but we love surfing and our family even more.
I’m also a total freak about dimensions (seriously, try me), and I love meeting new people, traveling, connecting, learning from other cultures. That love of movement and curiosity is at the core of Artifact. Whether you’re staying a year or a lifetime, home should feel like your dreams coming true.
Our team is mostly women, based around the world, and we can work with any style, location, or vision. We keep things flexible, thoughtful, and personal.
Also, surfing is life. That feeling of flow, freedom, and rhythm? That’s what we bring to every move."
